Takes a Licking...

Had you been in the car with us this morning, you would have overheard the following:

The Girl: I took my shoe off!

Me: Did you have to?

The Girl: I'm licking it!

Me: (glancing at her to see her licking the bottom of her sandal) Eww! Stop. Yuck. Drop that shoe.

The Girl: I like it. (Then holding the shoe down to the side of her seat to make me think she's dropped it.)

Me: Drop it right now! There is gross stuff on the bottoms of shoes.

The Boy: Like dog poop?

Me: Exactly. (I snatch the shoe during an opportune second.)

The Girl: Waaaaaaa! I want my shoe. I want to lick it.

Where did this come from? I blame her father. I've never licked shoes. It must come from his side of the family.

Jay likes to eat my slippers. They're siblings under the skin, those two!

My 7 year old last night picked up a baseball (that had been played with in the backyard) from off the floor and licked it. Lady Spud told him to stop licking the baseball, but he still kept it around his face (denying, of course, any lickage). I told him to get it away from his face, whereupon it was dropped back to the floor.

Why do I tell this story? Just to reassure you that you'll probably have a few more years of mischievous kidlets orally examining the world. God help us.

Marc, what is it with licking stuff. The Boy still does it sometimes too. It is so weird.

That is funny. None of the weird stuff comes from my side of the family either.
