Little Lolita
Little Lolita
Even though we usually make our own Halloween costumes out of the dress-up clothes we have on hand, I was perusing a costume website when I came across the "Cheerless Leader" costume in the teen section. I'm not the cheerleader type, but I'd take a cheerleader over a Goth wannabe. The costume with it's fishnet tummy and fishnet shorts is disturbing and totally inappropriate, but the fact that the model looks to be about eight and is wearing blood red lipstick and heavy eye makeup seems even worse.
My kids may do many things I don't like and wear many things I don't approve of when I'm not looking, but I'm sure there is someone out there buying this "adorable" little costume for their daughter. Because letting your daughter run around looking like a Goth Hooker is just "soooo cuuuuute!"
You Republicans are so JUDGMENTAL! Like, for real!
Posted by: Frazier at October 12, 2005 10:13 PMCouldn't agree more. Where are the normal costumes? A friend of mine took her 11 yr old daughter to the costume store and said the only choices were between varying degrees of hooker costumes.
I feel that the exploration of social roles contrary to dominant social norms of sexuality, sex roles, and sexual commercialization (that is, the commercialization of sex and/or sexuality), is essential to the development of both prepubescent and adolescent psyches capable of challenging, subverting, and undermining those norms, which, it cannot be gainsaid, are imposed, transplanted, and transmorgified by a white-mail-oppressive military-industrial complex based on the subservience of womyn to the traditional female-as-reproductive organ paradigm, which of course is essential to sustain that complex with an unwitting and unthinking, or, at least, misled and misguided, self-replicating population of humyn beings. Also, I am a sicko.
