Too Many?
Too Many?
The other night we went out to dinner and the hostess asked how old the children were. "Six, three and one," I told her.
She looked at me and asked, "Are they all yours?" with a look of surprise on her face. I was holding The Toddler Girl in front of me, so I'm not sure if she could tell that I was pregnant.
At the time I thought she was amazed by the number of children, although three really doesn't seem like a large family even nowadays. Therefore, I've decided she was really shocked that someone as young looking as I am could have three children.
La, la, la....
Permit me my delusions, okay?
Good heavens -what on earth makes people think they can make remarks like that? You *are* very young-looking, it's true - that has to be it!
Posted by: diane at June 19, 2006 09:12 AMIt has to be the "happy mommy" glow.
Also, it was early on in the meal, before the youngsters decided how they would bother each other.
[I had a difficult time with just one six-or-younger going out to eat where they did not say "biggie size that?". I can't imagine taking three. Well, I could but it's kinda scary.]
Posted by: MarcV at June 19, 2006 10:18 AMHey, not only are you young-looking, you're YOUNG. I am sure that's what she meant.
Posted by: Lenise at June 19, 2006 11:01 AMI am sure that it is because you look so young!
Hehe, I love it! Sometimes comments like that strike me the wrong way, but I'm learning to just be proud of the fact that yes, I have a whopping large brood of THREE and I don't look like I should be old enough to have THAT many!
This weekend, I was standing in line at a public bathroom and a woman in front of me starts a pleasant conversation with me. I mentioned my six year old (who was not with me) and the lady says, "You don't look old enough to have a six year old!" Lol, so I start my spiel, with a smile of course:
"Actually, I'm 32 (and a half!), have been married for 13 years, have an 11 1/2 year old, 6 year old, AND a 5 year old.:)"
Then it just made my day when she told me that she thought I was 18, lol!!!
Must be my new haircut...I have bangs now for the first time in 10 years!
